Fundraising & Event Planning

Virtual  |  3-8 hours/month  |  Flexible schedule  |  Led by Fundraising Chair | Meetings as necessary

Role Overview

As part of our Fundraising & Event Planning Team, you’ll work alongside board members and other volunteers to brainstorm, plan, and execute fundraising initiatives.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Brainstorm creative fundraising ideas with board members and other volunteers.

  • Collaborate with board members and other volunteers to bring ideas to life.

  • Build list of potential community funding initiatives – give back nights, one-time events, etc.

  • Assist with planning and coordinating fundraising events – logistics, timelines, vendor coordination, day-of execution.

  • Assist with tracking event success – help measure outcomes and celebrate wins.

Financial

Virtual | up to 2 hours monthly | Monthly finance committee meeting

Role Overview

Share your financial expertise to help Birthday Connections grow sustainably. Your guidance means we can celebrate more birthdays and serve more Kansas City families facing life's hardest moments.

What You’ll Do

  • Review and provide feedback on budgets, financial reports, and projections.

  • Support grant budgeting and financial narrative development.

  • Advise on financial forecasting for program expansion and scaling.

  • Share insights on diversifying revenue streams and building reserves.

  • Offer guidance on accounting systems, financial software, or reporting tools as needed.

What We’re looking for

  • Professional experience in accounting, finance, financial planning, or related field.

  • Strong understanding of budgeting and financial analysis.

 

Bonus points for: 

  • Nonprofit financial management or board treasurer experience.

  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards and compliance.

  • Familiarity with grant budgeting and reporting.

  • CPA, CFA, or other relevant certifications.

Community Engagement & Sponsoships

Virtual Position  |  5 hours/month  |  Flexible schedule  |  Monthly check-ins with ED

 

Role Overview

As a Community Engagement & Sponsorship Ambassador, you'll be a bridge between Birthday Connections and the Kansas City business community, helping secure partnerships that support our mission.

What You'll Do

  • Research and identify potential corporate partners whose values align with our mission.

  • Make outreach calls and send emails.

  • Pitch Birthday Connections' mission and sponsorship packages with enthusiasm and authenticity

  • Follow up with interested businesses and guide them through the sponsorship process.

  • Represent Birthday Connections at networking events, community gatherings, and business mixers (optional).

  • Track engagement activities and maintain communication records.

  • Collaborate with Birthday Connections leadership to refine messaging and strategies.

What We're Looking For

  • Someone who is comfortable and enjoys making new connections.

  • Comfort with pitching ideas and asking for support and ability to articulate why our work matters in a compelling way.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Professional and warm representation of our mission.
